Toyota could introduce a new diesel powertrain to its 4Runner mid-size SUV. After the latest videos and photos, the 2020 Toyota 4Runner Diesel is a high possibility. Sure, Toyota denied those reports. However, the latest Toyota’s video is showing a new instrument cluster. On the same instrument cluster, we could see a significant change in the RPM category.

Of course, diesel may not arrive in the US, but some other market could benefit from it. Besides that and a new instrument cluster, 4Runner will get more upscale design and a better interior. TRD Pro variant will also be in the offer.

2020 Toyota 4Runner Diesel Upgrades

The upcoming 2020 Toyota 4Runner Diesel will get minor exterior upgrades. Generally, the complete exterior remains. That includes the dimensions, the vehicle’s shape, and styling. However, a small revision of the front end is about to happen. New 4Runner will get larger features upfront. That includes boomerang-shaped headlights and front grille.

The rear end will host a small redesign of the taillights. The side profile, like the rest of the body, are intact. The boxy shape looks surprisingly modern. Some parts of the SUV are still looking rugged. We like the power-retractable window incorporated into the liftgate. Thanks to that, you can now load your cargo with ease.

2020 Toyota 4Runner Diesel Powertrain

4Runner SUV will get a diesel powertrain. Despite Toyota’s denying, video represented at the Chicago Auto Show is the clear proof. On the same video, the 2020 Toyota 4Runner sports an all-new instrument panel with unique redline set at 4,500 rpm. The 4Runner so far offers only a 4.0-liter V6 that revs to 6,000 rpm.

This video clearly came from somewhere. We still think the diesel engine won’t arrive in the US. However, some other markets could see a new 4Runner Diesel. On the other hand, 4.0-liter V6 gasoline will surely remain a standard engine option. This V6 is capable of producing 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is rated at 17 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. A 5-speed automatic transmission is still available.
