The forthcoming 2021 Mazda Miata is coming to the markets as the new-gen model. Previously, Japanese automaker introduced the new generation Miata in 2016. It came with a striking design and all-new powertrain. Now, the 2021 model will also offer a couple of significant changes. For a start, Miata will lose additional weight.

That means the arriving model will be one of the lightest cars on the market at the moment. The lighter model could force Mazda to introduce new and smaller engine. However, Japanese company has no plans to lower the vehicle’s performance. Still, a three-cylinder drivetrain is a rumor, next to the speculated turbocharged engine for the first time in Miata’s history.

2021 Miata Will Lose Additional Weight

The all-new 2021 Mazda Miata will become one of the lightest cars on the market. According to the Japanese firm, lightness is one of the primary focuses. The next-gen Miata will now deploy more ultra-light materials, which includes carbon fiber. There won’t be any dimensional changes. Miata will keep its proportions and its shape.

Even the platform is unchanged. The idea of carbon fiber isn’t new at all, but the materials are expensive. So, how is Mazda doing it? Mazda found a way to develop new and more affordable carbon fiber. It sounds simple, but it’s not. Anyway, new 2021 Miata will weigh 2,332 pounds only.

Exterior Colors

Just like its predecessor, the 2021 Mazda Miata will once again arrive with a gorgeous exterior color palette. There will be up to seven exterior paints in the offer. Everything starts with the Arctic White and Jet Black Mica. Moreover, Mazda is offering Eternal Blue Mica and Ceramic Metallic. On the other hand, this model even more impressive when painted in one of the exclusive colors.

Machine Gray Metallic costs $300, while Snowflake White Pearl Mica is priced at $200. The most expensive and definitely the best color option is Soul Red Crystal Metallic. This beautiful shade of red color is available for $600.

Engine Rumors

Current MX-5 Miata is using a relatively new 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. This powerplant is producing 181 hp, and it comes with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. Moreover, this engine will remain for 2020 as well. What about the 2021 Mazda Miata? No one really knows the answer. Even Mazda explained that making Miata lighter will open more room for new and smaller engine.

Moreover, 2021 Miata is the new-generation model, so new output sounds perfectly reasonable. Rumors are present, and you can find a lot of them on the internet. One of interesting rumors is about the new engine with a turbocharger. After losing more weight, it will be interesting to see new fuel economy figures as well.  Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait for almost a year to hear more specific technical details.
