The 2021 Toyota Mirai is getting further and significant changes. The second-gen Mirai will get a redesign and additional upgrades in basically every category. Interestingly, many car experts are surprised that this car still exists. Indeed, the first-gen model didn’t bring major success. One of the reasons is probably its starting price.
Yet, new Mirai continues its journey. This time, Mirai will use hydrogen which is a drastic change. 2021 Mirai Gets New Platform and Redesign
Again, many experts are against new 2021 Toyota Mirai for various reasons. Still, Toyota is introducing a new-gen model that will ride on the brand-new platform. Improvement is visible at first glance, especially in terms of styling. However, one of the most important changes is the new architecture. It is a rear-wheel-based platform and Mirai will be slightly longer this time.
Still, the vehicle’s proportions are elegant. Mirai borrows a lot of cues from Supra, Avalon and Camry models. That includes the longer hood design, the look of the front fascia and even the rear part is borrowed. According to Toyota, Mirai will deliver better driving experience and most importantly, the new platform can accommodate a hydrogen-powered engine.
Interior Refreshments
Toyota mentioned that the interior will also get numerous updates. However, the manufacturer specified only a few of them. The forthcoming 2021 Toyota Mira will get improvements, mostly in the technology department. For a start, a 12.3-inch touchscreen is available.
Moreover, this car will offer a 14-speaker premium JBL sound system and navigation. The Japanese carmaker also said that the new model will borrow a couple of cues from Lexus. As a result, Toyota promises a quieter and more upscale interior for 2021.
2021 Toyota Mirai Driving Range
According to a Japanese manufacturer, new 2021 Toyota Mirai will get a 30% improvement in driving range over the current model. As you may know, the 2020 Mirai provides 300-mile capacity. For an electric vehicle, those figures are more than good.
Still, Toyota doesn’t want to stop there. The new model will offer around 400 miles of range. Mirai’s system is using hydrogen for fuel and not the battery pack. This is an entirely new start for Mirai as a luxury vehicle in a numerous way but hydrogen fuel could be the problem, here’s why.
Hydrogen Fuel – Pros and Cons
The hydrogen-powered system is a good idea, but it isn’t popular as the hybrid or all-electric powertrains. For that reason, you are limited if you buy new 2021 Toyota Mirai. The reason is of course, charging. You can charge the hybrid’s battery pack on every corner. On the other hand, hydrogen fueling stations exist in Oahu, Hawaii, and bigger cities in California, San Francisco, Sacramento, San Diego and L.A. On top of that, you can build your charging station for hybrid models at home.
Those are the cons, here are the pros. Hydrogen is clean fuel and for that reason, it doesn’t take a lot of time to charge model such as Mirai. Even the supercharged stations from Tesla cannot juice up the battery so fast. Mirai will need only five minutes to recharge. Finally, Mirai is perfect for bigger cities that are suffering from air pollution. After all, the byproduct of hydrogen is water.
