The forthcoming 2021 Mitsubishi ASX is getting more upgrades, according to the newest spy shots. ASX is a European version of the Outlander Sport model. Moreover, it is also known as the Mitsubishi RVR. This SUV rides on its third-generation since 2010. Unfortunately, new spy photos are clearly showing mid-cycle refreshments. That means the current generation will stick around for at least another year.

On the other hand, ASX will suffer a couple of serious changes. That includes both exterior and interior changes. The Japanese automaker will look to deliver a more upright design and more modern cabin. As for the performance, ASX will keep its current engine lineup.

From now on, the 2021 Mitsubishi ASX will offer a company’s latest Dynamic Shield design language. Thanks to that, the front fascia will now look closer to the Eclipse Cross model. Generally, ASX will look more stylish and meaner. Moreover, LED headlights and taillights are updated as well. These units are also slightly reshaped, and the headlamps seem to be longer as well. For 2021, ASX will get new exterior paints.

That includes Sunshine Orange, Oak Brown and Red Diamond colors. A rear skid plate is redesigned and is now finished in silver. It makes new ASX looks more rugged, no doubt about it. Interestingly, the front skid plate will largely remain. This SUV continues to ride on its 18-inch wheels, and it reminds us of a smaller version of the Montero Sport model.

Interior Gets Larger Touchscreen

The all-new 2021 Mitsubishi ASX is also introducing a couple of drastic changes on the inside. For a start, the interior will host larger touchscreens. Instead of current 7-inch, Mitsubishi is offering a larger 8-inch unit as standard. The infotainment system is up to date, and it works perfectly with a new display. Upper trim levels are offering a “Tom-Tom” navigation with real-time traffic info.

Mitsu is also adding new smartphone integrations. This app comes with modern speedometer, warning lamps and much more. The seats are very comfortable in all trim levels, and ASX offers more than a decent cargo area.

New Gasoline Engine is Available

As we already wrote, ASX is a European version of the Outlander Sport. This SUV will use a different engine lineup. Unlike its sibling, the 2021 Mitsubishi ASX comes with a new 2.0-liter gasoline engine. This naturally-aspirated powertrain comes with a standard 5-speed manual gearbox. Also, you can buy an optional CVT automatic transmission that mimics the sports mode with six gears.

This engine is producing 148 hp and 144 lb-ft of torque. Interestingly, but there is no word on a diesel engine. We don’t know if the current 1.6-liter unit has been dropped or not. If that’s the case, we could see a new diesel powertrain in the offer. No matter what happens, ASX remains a front-wheel-drive SUV.

2021 Mitsubishi ASX Price and Release Date

Recently revised 2021 Mitsubishi ASX will go on sale later in 2020, after the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. The U.S. Outlander Sport variant is coming at the beginning of 2021. The price starts at around $25,000, and upper trim levels could cost up to $40,000.
