Mitsubishi works on updating most of its future models. That includes cars, SUVs and trucks. Besides Mirage and Eclipse, the new 2022 Mitsubishi Galant VR4 will be heavily upgraded. More precise, Mitsu is bringing back its old nameplate from the 90s. This time, it will feature a more modern design, and it will share a lot of components with the regular Galant model.
VR4 variant comes with the rallying pedigree, but it will also represent a family hauler. Moreover, this time we can expect a more fuel-efficient engine or plug-in hybrid powertrain. The Japanese automaker will release its new model by the end of 2021.
2021 Galant VR4 – Extremely Dynamic Design
Once you fell in love with the SUV, it is hard to switch back to the sedan. We don’t blame you. This is not an easy task at all. However, the 2022 Mitsubishi Galant VR4 could help you with that. This car will feature a stunning design that looks more dynamic. Mitsu will look to deliver an aggressive and muscular appearance at any cost. The front fascia is a classic combination of past and present. The most notable styling cues are the split-nose grille with lower intakes and slimmer LED headlights.
On top of that, dynamic shield chrome-work looks truly impressive and upright. The front and rear fenders are looking meaner, and we like new door sills. A-pillars are blacked-out, and Mitsubishi delivers a floating roof effect. As for the rear part, quad exhausts, lower diffuser and quad exhaust are looking incredibly sporty.
2022 Mitsubishi Galant VR4 PHEV
In the previous generation, Galant used a conventional four-cylinder and potent V6 engines. Both units were perfect for rallying, and both engines formed the basis for the Lancer Evolution models. Now, the 2022 Mitsubishi Galant VR4 goes in a different direction. Basically, every model beyond 2021 will feature some sort of hybridization or electrification.
Galant will be no different, so plug-in setup is the most likely outcome. Moreover, Galant will use the same system presented on the MI-TECH concept this October. This system won’t use petrol or diesel engine to send power to the wheels. No, a new plug-in hybrid setup combines an efficient gas-turbine generator that powers the battery pack and four electric generators.
This is perhaps the most impressive thing about the new 2022 Mitsubishi Galant VR4. A quad-motor setup comes with an ability to integrate tuned front and rear dual-motor control. Mitsubishi said this system would use electric brake callipers.
Thanks to that, new VR4 will provide superb handling, accurate control of acceleration and perfect braking. Unlike the other manufacturers, Mitsubishi won’t offer a classic AWD system. Instead, the 2022 Galant will use a part-time AWD configuration when slip is detected.
2022 Galant VR4 Release date, Competition
For a start, price is a complete mystery at this moment. As for the release date, the new 2022 Mitsubishi Galant VR4 will be released at some point in 2021. In normal circumstances, Subaru Legacy is the most natural competitor.
However, this model doesn’t offer any type of electrification. With that in mind, Nissan Altima, Mazda 6, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Tesla Model 3 are the most likely rivals.
